  1. I) Particulars of the organization, functions and duties.

 

The Department of Science & Technology is envisaged and committed to bring about socio-economic upliftment of the people through contemporary science awareness and technology interventions for the state. The following are the achievements made during the current financial year: –

  1. The only Science Museum in the state has upgraded from the various existing facilities with an Innovation Hub and a 50 seated Planetarium at Nagaland Science Centre, Dimapur, and fully ready for inauguration for  opening to the public.
  2. The department organizes various science popularization programmes including Celebration of National Science Day  throughout the state.
  3. The department targets rural schools in the state by helping them to set up its own science laboratories  by providing science equipments.
  4. The department has sponsored a number of awareness programme on  Climate change with free distribution of eco-friendly bio-degradable bags.
  5. Production of high quality sanitary napkins & panty liners with a remarkable feature for its high quality, low cost and highly environmental friendly.
  6. The department has set up of a Science Park at S&T Complex, Kohima with exciting, innovative & play and learn exhibits.
  7. Construction of  Wide Screen Digital Planetarium has started at Kohima which is  funded by the HUDCO, under Negotiated Loan.

Under the aegis of the department, Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC), an autonomous body functions with the support of DST, GoI, New Delhi for catalyzing and implementing various science & technology intervention projects as well as location specific research programmes for the state.
Achievements :

  1. Patent Information Cell facilitated in getting GI Registered for Chakhesang Shawl.
  2. Established State Climate Change  Cell under the National Mission  for sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem for knowledge management  and research in climate change in the sta
  3. Awareness  creation and capacity building in biotechnology under the Biotech Hub funded by the Department of Biotechnology, GOI.
  4. Landuse/Landcover and wasteland monitoring project in collaboration with the Department of Space, GOI.

III) The procedure followed in the decision making process, including channels of supervision and accountability.

  1.    Secretariat :
    In the Administrative Departments, all official correspondences from the Ministry, NGOs, and other departments are received by the Secretary and endorsed to the branch through Deputy Secretaries after entering in the proper receipt and dispatch registers.
    All important matters relating to policies, financial implications and decision are put up to the Secretary, Minister in charge as per normal procedure. The decisions/approvals/sanctions/ made by authority thereafter, is conveyed to the Directorate for implementation and necessary action.
    B.       In the Directorate
    Any application/order/correspondence received by the HOD is endorsed to the respective branch for necessary action. Planning is properly digested technical & other establishment matters.

Any rule /orders/notification issued by the government from time to time are followed. We follow mall the official timing like any other Govt. Department. We support  many projects including research projects.
