Particulars of the Organization, Function & Duties:

 

History and background::
Sericulture was a branch of Industries department and bifurcated during the year 1988 and started functioning independently.

Name of the Organization:
           Government of Nagaland, Department of Sericulture, Nagaland.

Objectives:

  • To popularize sericulture in rural areas, generate self employment opportunities and uplift rural economy through implementation of various developmental schemes.
  • To introduce and impart latest technologies on sericulture.
  • To support marketing of sericulture products.
  • To improve the economy of farmers and sustainability through sericulture.

Mission Statement:

  • Creation of infrastructural facilities, technical support, production of Dfls(disease free layings) and supply of seeds, saplings/seedling and cuttings.
  • To promote latest technology of Silkworm rearing, spinning/reeling and weaving.
  • Development of mulberry silk industry.
  • To provide opportunities to women folk through sericulture.
  • To facilitate marketing of sericulture products.
  • To make sericulture a cottage industry and fulltime occupation.

Vision statement:
To become a major Eri Silk producing state in the country.

As per the normal office procedure, all official letters/correspondences received are routed from the Director – Additional Director- Joint Director – Deputy Director to concerned dealing assistant and as per the marked note in the letters/correspondence etc. it is processed by the concerned dealing assistant and put-up through  the assigned officers to Director  for final approval.
The final decisions (Administrative / Financial / Technical) are made by the Director basing on the suggestions / recommendations of the sub-ordinates.

In matters of policy decisions, the issues are deliberated in the meeting and decisions are made collectively with the approval of the Government.

Channel of supervision:-

Director supervises the department and the respective district in-charges supervises the assignments / works / programme at the district/ field levels.
Accountability:-

All the officers and staffs are accountable.

Communication:- 

Communications of the decisions to the public are made through Official Letters / Orders / Notifications / Press releases / Notice board / Doordarshan / Radio / Pamphlets / Brochure/ electronic media.

Authority of final decision:-

The decision of the Head of the Department of Sericulture is binding and final.
