INTRODUCTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Motor Vehicles department in the State was in existence before the statehood under the erstwhile Assam State in the two districts of Kohima and Mokokchung with assignment of the Registration Mark of ASH for the Naga Hills districts. The registrations were very negligible therefore there was no separate licensing authority but Superintendent of Police was designated as the licensing authority.<\/p>\n

On attaining statehood, the two Regional Transport Officer\u2019s offices were opened at Kohima and Mokokchung. Thereafter, the expansion and growth of the offices in the rest of the district was very slow. The District Transport Officer\u2019s office at Mon, Tuensang, Wokha, Zunheboto, Dimapur and Phek were opened during a span of 40 years after the first office was opened at Kohima.<\/p>\n
